Hardwood Classics Month (with Update)

Update (2/7):   The Kings are planning on wearing their Hardwood Classics Jerseys, throwbacks to the 1951 Rochester Royals, in games against LAC (2/28), POR (3/2), ORL (3/9), and GSW (3/14).  Buying the package of tickets to all 4 games gets you the world's most disturbing bobblehead.

(2/4):  February is Hardwood Classics Month in the NBA.  The photos and images of the planned designs are slowly starting to come into the picture.  Here's a breakdown of the details that have come out up to this point.

The Lakers:  It may or may not be related to Hardwood Classics month, but the Lakers used their huge Sunday game against the Celtics to break out jerseys modeled after the ones worn by the 1971-72 championship team -- the ones with the exquisite shadowed numbers.  On the other hand, the shorts and jerseys were seemingly mismatched as two different fabrics, with the top meshier than the bottom.








The Warriors: In their win over the Bucks on Thursday night, the Warriors sported their Hardwood Classics Jerseys commemorating their 1975 title team.  In addition, the jerseys sported a logo honoring former owner Franklin Mieuli, who passed away during the offseason.  The circular logo featured his trademark blue deerstalker cap.

The Bucks: Only two days after facing the Warriors in their vintage duds, the Bucks will break out their Hardwood Classics jerseys tomorrow night.  A tribute to their 1971 team, the outfit even features a detailed logo on the warmup jersey depicting their prize:  the Walter A. Brown Championship Trophy.

The Kings, Celtics, and Knicks:  The great sports uniform blog, UniWatch, has linked to some sketches for future Hardwood Classics releases this month.  While the Celtics and Knicks take their already classic unis and backdate them to 1956-57 and 1969-70, respectively, the surprising twist involves Sacramento.

In the beginning, the Rochester Royals begat the Cincinnati Royals, who begat the Kansas City/Omaha Kings (KC already had a Royals franchise), who begat the Kansas City Kings.  They, in turn, begat the Sacramento Kings in 1985.  So the team that may soon relocate to Anaheim will be sporting jerseys from 60 years, 4 cities, and 2,384 miles ago.  And yet it may still be the coolest throwback in the lot.
